People often ask us for ideas on unique engagement rings and we always follow up with the same question, which is "What exactly do you mean by unique?"
Because what some consider unique or different can be quite common for others. It's a matter of personal experience and what's normal to you.
Each one of these rings are unique for some people and common for others so don't get bogged down with labels.
Engaging Fact: In the Spencer family (as in Princess Diana) a sapphire engagement ring is very common. Diana was a trendsetter, but in fact, her mother, and her grandmother all received sapphire rings for their engagements—common to their family, but unique for the rest of us.
Look at as many rings as you can (and don't limit yourself to what anyone calls an "engagement ring") and find the one that just feels right!
This is the one piece of jewelry that you will likely not be replacing for a very long time, if ever. Your taste will change, so keep in mind that although you want something different you don't want to go overboard. And what may seem quite unusual today can become quite common later on.

In the end, there are only three components to any ring—the metal, the setting, and the gemstones. So unique engagement rings need to be unique in one of those three ways.
You can go with a less common metal like rose gold, a different setting inspired by a period in history (like the Art Deco examples above) or swap out a diamond for some of the newer colored gemstone designs.
Be resourceful—think outside the box. Explore your options with gemstone and birthstone rings instead of a diamond one. It's okay to throw a little tradition to the wind, just make sure you end up with something you will treasure forever.
Be bold, be beautiful, be unique—but most importantly, be you.
