Moissanite Engagement Rings
Moissanite Rings and Wedding Sets

Moissanite engagement rings and wedding sets started appearing on the scene about twenty years ago and are an option for people looking for an alternative to  diamonds.

Contrary to what some people think moissanite is actually a natural and rare mineral and was discovered by a man named Moissan in the late 1800s.

The stone itself is quite desirable and has many similar characteristics to a diamond.

However natural Moissanite is extremely rare so 99%, if not all moissanite jewelry on the market is not natural but instead lab-grown synthetic moissanite.

Moissanite engagement rings are quite striking because moissanite can actually have more fire and brilliance than a real diamond and will never dull or cloud.

Part of the reason for this is that it is hard, almost as hard as a diamond which rates a 10 on the Mohs' scale while a high quality moissanite can reach up to 9.25. This means that it is the second hardest stone, way after rubies and sapphires and won't scratch.

Moissanite rings also have a ton of brilliance and fire due to the way that light refracts within the stone. In other words, you get way more bling! for your engagement ring buck.

And speaking of bucks, the cost of moissanite is around an 1/8th of what a diamond costs. For some this may be a good deal, but it is still significantly more expensive than a Cubic Zirconia engagement ring which is the most common diamond simulant used in wedding related jewelry.

In terms of color, moissanite is nearly colorless with only a very slight greenish tendency, however it can, depending on the quality, reflect some different colors than a diamond that would never be noticed by the naked eye. In fact, moissanite is so close to a diamond that the average person could very easily be fooled into believing that it is a real diamond.

There are two things we'd like you to keep in mind when thinking about Moissanite engagement rings. First of all, never try to pretend that your moissanite ring is a diamond ring—because it isn't a diamond ring—it's a moissanite ring and there is nothing wrong with being just that. And secondly, enjoy the stone for what it is and don't concern yourself with what it's not!

If the cost of a moissanite ring is appealing but you don't like the idea of an 'imitation' even though it really isn't, consider a birthstone engagement ring.
