Heart Shaped Engagement Rings

Heart Shaped Diamond Heart shaped engagement rings are really all about the heart shaped diamond which is considered one of the fancy cut shapes of stones.

Ironically, it is not traditionally considered a diamond cut for engagement rings and is usually used in pendants and earrings. However, hopeless romantics always say that it is the ideal shape for a wedding ring.

The only advice we can give is this, if both of you are making the ring decision then that is great. But, if you're a guy buying one for your bride-to-be then make sure that she really wants a heart shaped diamond before you get her one. Because for some women, the heart shape cut can be perceived as a bit of a novelty rather than a mark of enduring love to wear for decades to come.

The shape itself is one of the most difficult to create because of the crevice at the top and in its ideal form should have a length to width ratio of 1.

A 1.1 ratio is the largest one should go, because after that the shape becomes increasingly distorted and begins to look less and less like what it's supposed to be—and that doesn't work if the love of your life has her heart set on a heart shaped ring.

The example below was recently purchased through JamesAllen and is a great choice for those with delicate fingers but a taste for sparkle. Four round brilliant basket-set diamonds accent the beautiful center heart shaped stone.

The shape is really a variant of the pear shaped diamond. When a cutter sees an imperfection at the top of a pear shape, they often transform it by 'chiseling' away the imperfection and creating a heart shape instead.

Good quality stones of this shape are cut with 58 facets just like the round brilliant. However, depending on the technique used to cut the shape, the number of facets can vary—try and find one with 58 facets because it's a good indicator of a quality cut.

A heart shaped diamond is sentimental and romantic and when you really think about it, a heart shaped engagement ring may be the way to go.
