Amethyst Rings and Engagement Rings

Amethyst rings are beautiful and make wonderful engagement rings.

The amethyst, throughout history, has been highly sought after by princes and is believed to have a tremendous amount of miraculous powers. It is also the February birthstone.

In terms of mythology, the amethyst is thought to bring good fortune and repel evil spirits.

It is said to inspire intellect and hold many medicinal properties. However our favorite attribute surrounding the amethyst is that it symbolizes trust, purity and friendship. What better traits can there be for an amethyst engagement ring?

Purple has always been recognized as a symbol of royalty so it's no wonder that the amethyst has had such a profound following throughout history.

The Amethyst is a quartz and is mined throughout the world. Different geographic areas will produce different hues and shades of amethysts. These varying shades and undertones will depend on the levels of manganese and iron in the earth's composition and will produce a range of purples, from mauves, to lilacs and lavenders, to deeper richer purples.

Although it comes in various shades, from a very pale lilac to a deep rich purple, as a general rule of thumb the richer and more vivid the color the more valuable the amethyst.

Most amethysts on the market today have been heat treated to bring out the best possible (and richest) color out of the purple quartz stone, so to find a naturally rich and deep purple Amethyst is quite rare.

Below are 3 different styles of amethyst rings that show the versatility of the stone and would make wonderful engagement rings. They all have something special about them that will charm those who receive them and make admirers out of those who don't own one.

This ring has a lot of 'wow' factor with a genuine Rose de France Amethyst and diamond accents. The diamonds are pave set in a halo that surrounds and frames the large purple stone. The design has an 'old world' feel that makes it look like it belongs to European nobility.
This is a classic sweetheart ring—the type that makes all girls say "Awww!" when they see it. The center heart shaped amethyst is beautifully set with pink sapphire and diamond accents in white gold. We love the way the purple, pink and white work together. This ring just has romance and love written all over it!
This amethyst and diamond ring has eye appeal. The center cushion cut amethyst is framed with darker trillion cut amethysts and round diamonds. We really like the way the ring builds up from the shank and looks beautiful on the hand without looking too heavy.

Amethyst rings have a lot of character because of the color of the stone and the royal images that purple conjures up in our minds. The stone is hard enough to be worn every day (with a 7 Mohs rating) and it's lustre is much like a diamonds. We guess that's why amethyst engagement rings are so interesting for so many. They're unexpected, visually appealing and as unique as the girl who wears them.
